Arun Govil was born on 12 January 1958 in the city of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Arun Ji’s father’s name was Shri Chandra Prakash Govil. He started participating in plays in the fifth class itself. Every year he also played the character of Ram in Ramlila. But Arun Ji’s father wanted his son to do a government job like him too. But Arun Govil was more interested in acting. Arun Govil married actress Sreelekha. He has a son Amal Govil and a daughter Sonika Govil.

Early Life and Career
Arun’s brother Vijay Govil had a business in Mumbai. So Arun moved to Mumbai business in 1974 with his brother Vijay, but he did not feel like doing business at all. The ghost of acting came upon him and he started acting. For this reason, Arun started going round with the filmmakers to start a film career and after almost three years passed, he got a chance to work in Rajshri Production’s film Paheli in 1977. Impressed by his performance in this film, the film’s producer Mr Tara Chand Barjatya signed him for three more films. Then the 1979 film ‘Saavon Ko Aane Do’ proved to be a successful film in his film career and by the end of the 80s, several consecutive films such as ‘Itni si Baat’, ‘Judaai’, ‘Hathkari’, Dilwala, ‘Shradhanjali’ Worked in films like ‘Himmatwala’, Shatru, ‘Aasman’, ‘Ayyash’, 1979 Radha and Sita, Sanch Ko Anch Nahin, Sawan Ko Aane Do, etc.
In 1987, when Ramanand Sagar started making Ramayan serials, Arun Govil came to audition at Ramanand Sagar’s office. Ramanand Sagar had rejected them because Ramanand Sagar wanted that there should be no misconduct in the person who plays the character of Rama. Arun had a cigarette addiction due to which he was refused work. But later after Arun Govil was convinced not to smoke cigarettes throughout his life, Arun Govil got the character of Lord Shri Ram.
