Beginning his profession as a business artist, Satyajit Ray was drawn into fair filmmaking after watching assembly filmmaker Jean Renoir and Vittorio de Sica’s Italian neurologist film Cycle Themes (1948) during a trip to London. Satyajit Ray directed 36 films, including character films, documentaries, and shorts. He wrote many brief stories and novels. Scientists in his science fiction feature the fictional character of Feluda, Sleuth, and Professor Shonku. He was awarded an honorary diploma by Oxford College.
Satyajit Ray’s debut film Pather Panchali (1955) received eleven awards worldwide, as well as the inaugural Greatest Human Dock Award at the 1956 Cannes Movie Pageant. The film produced Apu Trilogy, along with Aparajito (1958) and Apur Sansar (The World of Apu) (1959). He did the scripting, casting, scoring, and enhancement and designed his personal credit score title and promotional material.
