After completing his post-graduation from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, he started preparing for the Civil Services Examination, which he passed in 1980 and was allotted the Tamil Nadu cadre in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Shaktikanta Das was retired from the IAS in 2017, after a career spanning over three decades. Shaktikanta Das served as Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. After his retirement, he was instrumental in formulating certain financial policies as a member of the 15th Finance Commission. Shaktikanta Das is the 25th Governor of RBI. After demonetization of currencies by the Narendra Modi government in November 2016, Shaktikanta Das along with Urjit Patel launched new Rs. 500 and Rs. 2000 currency notes.
